Dryden driver wasn’t wearing seat belt in fatal crash, police say

Police say a Dryden man who was killed after crashing into a culvert Monday was not wearing his seat belt. Thomas Rochat, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which happened at a curve in the roadway along Kohne Road in Virgil, according to Cortland County Sheriff's Office Lt. Rob Derksen.

An investigation determined Rochat was traveling north in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, when his vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason, then struck a culvert and rolled over, according to Derksen. Police say Rochat was partially ejected from his Trailblazer.
