Tompkins County adopts $171M budget after deliberation

After 10 weeks of deliberation and review, the Tompkins County Legislature approved a $171 million budget on a 13-1 vote during a meeting Tuesday.

The budget represents an increase in local spending of 0.9 percent and increases the county tax levy by 2.93 percent, a Tompkins County press release stated. The tax rate of $6.62 per thousand is down by 11 cents, which is a 1.53 percent decrease from 2016. Because the median assessed value of a Tompkins County home is up by $5,000 to $175,000 over the past year, the actual tax bill for a home at the median will rise $15.65.
