Chavez: Canandaigua Academy graduate climbing sports officiating ranks

He nods and smiles as he’s reminded of the adage that officiating sports is the only profession where you’re expected to be perfect your first day on the job, then get better from there.

Yet Steve Verbridge not only understands this, he embraces it. And that’s the driving force behind his work, and his ascension, in the world of football officiating. The 2008 Canandaigua Academy graduate who works as a contract substitute at his alma mater certainly keeps himself busy as a sports official. And when he’s not enforcing the rules, he’s teaching athletes to play by them as the varsity boys volleyball coach and modified baseball coach at CA.

But officiating … that’s where it’s at for Verbridge…
