A two-point lead isn’t much to work with but still it is a lead. So the Victor football team did what any team would want to do with a lead. The Blue Devils not only extended it, but they put it out of reach with four touchdowns in the second half of Saturday’s 42-13 win over Christian Brothers Academy in the Class AA state semifinals at Cicero-North Syracuse High school.
“We just had to realize that we were winning for a reason,” junior tight end Mike Novitsky said. “We knew we could run on them.” And run, they did. But they also got some help with recovered squib kick by CBA and a lost fumble, both of which set up touchdown runs for the Blue Devils (12-0), who advance to next Saturday’s Class AA championship game against Troy, which defeated New Rochelle in the other Saturday semifinal. Kickoff is 3 p.m. at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
