According to Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts, crews are out working as hard, and as quickly as they can, but that effort is not translating to perfect road conditions.
The snow that is coming down in communities like Newark, Clyde, Lyons, and Macedon is more than they can keep up with. That’s why his office has issued a travel advisory for the remainder of this event. It isn’t an outright ban on travel, like Cayuga County has issued. But, Virts points out that those traveling should exercise extreme caution and avoid doing so, if at all possible.
Crews will be working overtime over the next 12 hours, as temperatures fall into the 20s overnight throughout the area. The colder temperatures will make treating roadways even more difficult.
A fatal accident was reported in Williamson early-Monday afternoon. That accident, which involved a tractor trailer and car — was one of many throughout the county.
