Canandaigua schools take action against lead exposure

The Canandaigua City School District is undergoing a second phase of water testing now that elevated lead levels have been found in two drinking fountains and sinks.

Superintendent Lynne Erdle stated in a letter on the district website that access to the two fountains — in the Primary/Elementary School — was removed immediately and “all other drinking fountains in district facilities met guidelines for water consumption.” The sinks in school facilities that exceeded the threshold were either completely shut off or, in limited circumstances, were designated as hand-washing stations only with non-potable water.
