Clifton Springs woman rejects plea deal in predatory sexual assault case

The Clifton Springs woman facing a possible life sentence for alleged sex crimes against children and child pornography charges revealed that she has no interest in accepting a plea deal.

Janiet Simonds, 26, whose charges include two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A-II felony, was offered a deal crafted by the District Attorney’s Office that includes an admission of guilt in exchange for a minimum of 26 years to life in prison and a maximum of 30 years to life in prison.

If Simonds is found guilty at trial, she faces 50 years to life behind bars.

In addition to a lesser prison term, the plea deal offered by the District Attorney’s Office would also prevent federal prosecution of Simonds stemming from the discovery of child pornography.
