The town received $18,000 more from Casella Waste Systems in the fourth quarter of 2016 than it did in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Because it hosts the Ontario County Landfill, Seneca does not have a town tax levy. Under a host community benefits agreement between the town and Casella, manager of the landfill, Seneca receives quarterly payments that are based on the number of tons of trash deposited at the 389-acre landfill.
At Tuesday’s Town Board meeting, it was reported that the town received $452,472.94 for its fourth-quarter payment for 2016. For the same October-to-December time period in 2015, the town received $434,086.59.
Town Supervisor Andrew Wickham said soon he will issue a Request For Proposals to audit the Casella payments for 2016 to be sure they are accurate according to the formula in the agreement.
