Officer suing Ithaca Police Department for alleged discrimination

An Ithaca police officer who has served in law enforcement for 15 years is suing the department for allegedly discriminating against her based on her gender non-conformity and sexual orientation.

Sarah Crews, the officer filing the lawsuit, is asking for money for past and future pain and suffering and loss of income, along with changes within the department.

The lawsuit says Crews has worked for the Ithaca Police Department since 2007 and is an openly gay female who identifies as gender non-conforming. In other words, Crews does not conform to society’s expectations of gender expression.
