Victim of alleged Geneva robbery relives crime on the stand

When two people approached Zhiyi “Ben” Chen on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus in Geneva during the early morning hours of Aug. 26 — one donning a mask — his initial thought was it’s just a prank.

As his assailants waved handguns at him while demanding from him anything of value, the 21-year-old sophomore from China said, fear took hold.

Chen made those claims while on the stand Tuesday in the Ontario County Courthouse, during the first day of witness testimony in the joint trial for defendants Jemar M. McCall, 19, and a 16-year-old accomplice, not identified due to his age.
