Health Department confirms individualized case of Legionnaires’ disease in Moravia

The Cayuga County Health Department confirmed on Thursday that an individual contracted Legionnaires’ disease, a kind of pneumonia caused by bacteria, at the Mill Stream Court Apartments in Moravia.

Andrea Simmons, director of community health services, said the case was reported to their office on Feb. 27, and it appears to be an isolated one. The individual is currently hospitalized, but Simmons would not release more information in order to protect the person’s privacy.
