Buzz growing for Canandaigua drone biz

In selling his internet company, Canandaigua’s Brian Pitre appeared to be following in the footsteps of most successful sexagenarians.

However, unlike most successful, white-haired entrepreneurs who follow the sun to Florida or Arizona, Pitre headed in a different direction. Up.

Pitre and his business partner, Don Albert, founded SkyOp, a Canandaigua-based company that teaches people how to fly unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), commonly known as drones. “I am a serial entrepreneur and the oldest geek you have ever met,” professed Pitre, who taught himself to fly a drone and, after creating a business plan in 2012, wrote his first drone course two years later.
