After 28 years as the lead prosecutor in Ontario County, District Attorney Michael Tantillo has decided he’s calling it quits.
Tantillo recently announced that 2017 will be his final year as district attorney.
“I am in my 38th year as a prosecutor, my 28th year as DA, and I felt that it was time to step down so that someone else might have an opportunity to bring fresh ideas and approaches to the office,” the prosecutor said.
Tantillo, 63, graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 1974 and moved on to SUNY Buffalo Law School, where he graduated in 1977. He operated a private practice in Canandaigua for a couple years in the late 1970s, before being hired in 1979, by then Ontario County District Attorney Jim Harvey, to serve as an assistant district attorney.
