Clifton Springs woman rejects another deal in predatory sexual assault case

A Clifton Springs woman faced with the prospect of spending the rest of her life behind bars for allegedly sexually abusing multiple children and using them to make child pornography has again rejected a plea deal.

Janiet Simonds, 26, appeared in Ontario County Court on Friday where it was revealed that if she pleaded guilty to predatory sexual assault, a class A-II felony, she would be sentenced to a minimum of 24 years to life and a maximum of 28 years to life in prison.

If found guilty at trial in Ontario County Court — a trial slated to begin March 27 — the maximum Simonds faces is 50 years to life. That does not include the potential federal prosecution she faces for the alleged child pornography she is accused of helping to create.
