Chase winter blues away with art in Yates Co.

It often seems that late winter weather brings on a case of the late winter blues. At the Arts Center of Yates County, a late March exhibit aims not only to combat those winter blues but to celebrate the blues that surround us.

Rhapsody in Blue" is the second exhibit in 2017 to focus on the theme of Earth Art. Featuring work from photographer Howard LeVant and glass artist Eli Applebaum, the exhibit will include works from many local and regional artists that focus on the blues of the sky and streams, ponds, lakes, and oceans.

After studying under some of the top professional photographers of the age at the Institute of Design in Chicago, Howard LeVant spent almost 20 years as a commercial studio photographer in Chicago. He began teaching advertising photography at RIT in 1978, and is currently Professor Emeritus at that institution after a distinguished teaching career that included digital imaging, advertising, and business courses. He was also the food photographer for Wegmans for almost a decade. Last year, LeVant's alma mater honored him by creating a permanent archive of his work.
