Ontario County’s first assistant DA announces candidacy for top spot

After more than 100 jury trials and having argued more than 160 appeals during his roughly 18 years serving the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office, First Assistant District Attorney Jim Ritts is looking to make the next step.

From the steps of the Ontario County Courthouse on Wednesday morning, Ritts announced that he will be running for the district attorney position that will be vacated by longtime District Attorney Michael Tantillo later this year.

"As district attorney, the head of the Ontario County District Attorney's Office, I will ensure the continued aggressive prosecution of those who commit crimes against our community's most vulnerable, keeping our neighborhoods safe," Ritts told a group that gathered in front of the courthouse steps.
