Despite the loss of health coverage projected for tens of thousands of people in their districts — especially children, seniors and those with disabilities — Republican Congressmen Tom Reed and Chris Collins said they will vote for the American Health Care Act. Congress is expected to vote Thursday on the GOP bill that would repeal the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.
Reed and Collins announced their support following a late-night vote Tuesday on an amendment the men say will reduce property taxes.
“Of course, there will be resistance from those who refuse to change but the truth is that we all need to work together to meet the needs of New Yorkers in a leaner, smarter way. It’s time for the state to get its act together and quit putting the burden on upstate families and businesses,” stated Reed, whose 23rd district encompasses part of the Finger Lakes, including the eastern portion of Ontario County. Collins’ 27th district includes the western half of Ontario County.
