At 92, Eleanor Barry of Victor makes district votes work

Eleanor Barry doesn’t think twice about working 16 hours on the day of a Victor Central School District vote.

At the age of 92, Barry comes in around 5 a.m. to make sure voting machines are up and running and supplies are set up appropriately. She works all day troubleshooting situations that arise with voter registration and voting machines and then closes the polls at 9 p.m.

“After the polls are closed, she helps to verify the final numbers and presents results to those in attendance,” said District Clerk Maureen Goodberlet.

Barry, of Victor, was honored March 24 with the 2017 Volunteer Committed to Service award at a special recognition ceremony in the Victor Junior High/Senior High arts center during the district’s spring staff conference day.
