Cayuga County takes first negotiation steps on former nursing home site in Sennett

The Cayuga County Legislature agreed to move forward on negotiations with Auburn Community Hospital around the former county nursing home building in Sennett.

The body voted 14-0 Tuesday night requesting state representatives to pass legislation approving the county’s negotiation of a sale or lease of the building with ACH, “upon such terms as they may find to be reasonable and in the best interest of the community.” Legislator Michael Didio was absent.

Cayuga County Attorney Fred Westphal said asking state representatives permission to negotiate directly with a potential buyer is an alternative approach to going out to bid. The county, he added, has gone out to bid on one or two occasions since 2015.
