A Naples contractor, doing business under the name Diversified Contracting Co., is facing six felony charges after being accused of stealing in excess of $100,000 from two property owners.
Joel Smith is charged with two counts of second-degree grand larceny, a class C felony; and four counts of second-degree forgery, a class D felony. He is accused of stealing from two Ontario County residents who had hired him to work on cottages in the area, and of forging emails in connection with the misdeeds.
Ontario County District Attorney Michael Tantillo went over the details of the charges by email on Tuesday. According to the prosecutor, Smith first stole more than $50,000 from Ontario County residents who owned a cottage in the town of Barrington in Yates County, starting in July 2014.
