Ontario County Jail launch Vivitrol program

Though the months have progressed, numbers at the Ontario County Jail show that the struggle with opioid addiction remains the same among a significant portion of the inmate population.

Ontario County Chief Corrections Officer Alice Haskins said last September that the numbers of those incarcerated affected by drug or alcohol abuse was around 80 percent. That percentage holds steady today, as does the approximately 30 percent of those inmates struggling with opioid addiction.

With what has been deemed a heroin epidemic plaguing the region, as well as the rest of the United States, the incorporation of addiction treatment with those spending time behind bars continues to expand.
