Lightening the load on Day of Caring in Ontario County

Marty Dodge has forged many miles of walking trails throughout Ontario County, usually with students by his side. On Thursday, the retired professor of environmental conservation at Finger Lakes Community College wore a familiar hat. But this time, with chainsaw in hand and a trail to be built, his comrades were a team from IDI Billing Solutions. Volunteers from the tech-savvy billing services company in Victor joined Dodge to create a trail along the wooded hillside outside Light Hill Comfort Care Home on Parrish Street Extension in Canandaigua.

Before going to work on the trail, the crew got a tour of Light Hill, a home for people in the final days of their lives. Dodge said the trail is meant to enhance the grounds of the home he described as “the essence of comfort, peace and convenience.”

Seeing Light Hill and what it provides the community, “you feel like you want to be part of it,” Dodge said.
