Shortly after Dr. Peter D’Silva came to New York from India, he did something on many people’s Empire State wish list.
“When everybody comes here they want to see Niagara Falls, right?” D’Silva Peter D’Silvasaid during a recent interview at his office on the Geneva General Hospital campus. “That is one of the first things I did.”
Rather than drive the Thruway, D’Silva — who was doing his medical residency at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany — decided to take his time on Routes 5&20. That’s when he realized the Finger Lakes was a place he might like to practice someday.
“I always wanted to practice in a small town, so I took the back roads and came 5&20. I went through Skaneateles, Seneca Falls, Waterloo, Geneva,” he said. “I was struck by the beauty of this place. I just loved the Finger Lakes, so I decided to come here.”
Thirty-seven years after starting a general surgery practice in Waterloo and moving to Geneva in the early 1980s, D’Silva is retiring May 7. In January, he moved his practice from his longtime site on Pre-Emption Road to the Geneva General Surgical Associates office.
