The early numbers are in, and it appears public transportation in Yates County has been well received so far.
Daniele Lyman, president and CEO of Arc of Yates, made a presentation during Monday’s county Legislature meeting along with Mary Zelazny, executive director of Penn Yan-based Finger Lakes Community Health. Zelazny also serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit system, called Yates Transit Services.
Arc of Yates previously formed the legal entity to provide countywide public transportation, which is supported by grant funding from the state Department of Transportation. Yates Transit uses Arc buses and is overseen by Arc management.
“Daniele put a lot of time into this and built a solid foundation for our public transportation system,” Zelazny said.
Yates Transit has five routes linking Penn Yan to Dundee, Dresden, Rushville, Naples and Geneva. Buses make round trips to those communities twice a day.
