US Attorney: Charges filed against Mexican citizen arrested by ICE in Ithaca

A Mexican citizen who was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Ithaca last week has been charged with possession of a forged and counterfeit alien registration card.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says 32-year-old Jose Guzman-Lopez made an appearance before a United States Magistrate Judge in Syracuse and was ordered to be held by the U.S. Marshal’s Service pending further proceedings.

Guzman-Lopez was arrested on May 2, 2017 by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations deportation officers in Ithaca and charged with administrative immigration violations, according to Hartunian. During the arrest, officers allegedly found a fraudulent alien registration card in Guzman-Lopez’s wallet.
