Women’s suffrage: National movement, local roots

One could argue that first lady Abigail Adams, wife of second U.S. President John Adams, kicked off the women’s suffrage movement as the country was being established with a simple suggestion in a letter to her husband.

“Remember the Ladies,” she urged.

And on this Mother’s Day, the Ontario County Historical Society is not only remembering those who helped women earn the right to vote, but in a highly visible fashion.
