Naples Ambulance sounds call for recruits

Naples Ambulance opened its doors Sunday for an open house that volunteers hope bring new members. Several people filled out applications at the event that marked the beginning of National EMS Week, which celebrates the men and women behind the nation’s emergency medical services.

“We thank everyone who came today,” said Naples Ambulance President Linda Almekinder, who joined others with the nonprofit, volunteer-run service to talk to people about what the organization does — and about the need for more volunteers.

People stopped in to see the headquarters, where a bake sale featured homemade goods, an outside grilled featured hot dogs and visitors could check out the rigs — including one working Naples ambulance, one in need of repair, and a Canandaigua Ambulance on loan.
