Life in Seneca Falls is about to get sweeter. And crunchier. The Seneca Falls Farmers Market reopens for the 2017 season on Wednesday, June 7th and will continue to run every Wednesday through mid-October from 9 am until 1:30 pm rain or shine.
The market will again be held in beautiful People’s Park along the canal (15 Water Street if using GPS) and will feature more than 20 local producers and artisans from around the local area. From annual favorites to new arrivals, there is sure to be something for everyone throughout this open-air market.
Fresh locally-grown produce loaded with “just-picked” flavors will be available, including tomatoes, asparagus, peppers, micro-greens, squash, beans, onions, corn, and much more.
Other great local items like honey, maple syrup, farm-fresh eggs, lavender, fresh-cut flowers, maple-flavored treats, homemade baked goods, grass-fed beef, gluten-free goodies, and delicious jams will be on hand.
Looking for gift ideas? The market will also feature local artisans who carefully craft home décor items, handmade jewelry, linens, and aromatic lavender-filled items.
This year’s market also welcomes a few first-timers that will be offering handmade candles, all-natural body care products and balms produced with farm-raised goat’s milk, handcrafted soaps, and more.
Produce vendors will be accepting Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons, which are available through the WIC Program and Office for the Aging if qualified. The farmers market is also able to accept Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards when purchasing qualifying items at the market. For every $5 spent, EBT participants will receive an additional $2 coupon that is also good throughout the market. Spend $10 with your EBT card and you’ll receive $14 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Kids programs are also in planning and will start after the school year closes. A wine and cheese event, along with the return of Cider Week, are also in the mix. People are invited to attend the upcoming Flag Day event, which will occur on Wednesday, June 14th. All shoppers will receive a free handheld American flag, and veteran outreach services will also be on-site.
Breakfast and lunch will be available on opening day as the Buffalonian Food Truck makes their first visit to the market. They’ll return on June 21st and lunch will be available throughout the market season.
The Seneca Farmers Market is operated by the Seneca Falls Development Corporation (SFDC) with assistance from the Town of Seneca Falls and support from Cornell Cooperative Extension. A full listing of vendors, available items, future programs, and events will be announced on the market’s Facebook page and website, which is available at http://senecamarket.com.
