Waterloo Village Board adopts nepotism policy

The Village Board voted 5-0 Wednesday to adopt a new nepotism policy for the village handbook.

The vote followed an executive session called to discuss the employment history of a particular person.

The new policy comes as the village plans to interview four finalists for the police chief position. The board expects to make an appointment at its July 10 meeting.

One of the finalists is Sgt. Lee Marquart of the village Police Department, brother of Village Board member Les Marquart. The Marquarts are also sons of retired police chief Doyle Marquart.

The new policy states village employees or officials may not authorize or use the authority or influence of their positions to secure employment for or to benefit a person closely related by blood or marriage or any other significant business relationship.
