Henry Landschoot arrived to teach middle school mathematics in Waterloo in September 1969.
He was 21 years old and fresh out of college.
Monday, the 69-year-old Landschoot was honored with a plaque and words of thanks for a 48-year career that has come to an end.
“I loved it very much. I enjoyed the kids, the staff and the administrators I worked with,” Landschoot said Monday.
“But it’s time. I leave the technology department in good shape,” he said.
The Phelps native spent more than 30 years teaching mathematics to seventh and eighth graders before becoming full-time technology coordinator.
He actually retired a few years ago, but kept working on a part-time basis as technology coordinator, website master and teaching the staff how to use technology in the classroom.
