The state Department of Environmental Conservation has extended the deadline for making a decision on whether Seneca Meadows Landfill has filed a completed application for an extension of its operating permit.
Linda Vera, DEC Region 8 spokeswoman, said the regulatory deadline to determine whether the landfill’s application is complete has been extended to July 14.
Vera said this was done upon mutual consent of the DEC and Seneca Meadows officials. Once a decision has been made on completeness, the application will be scheduled for public comment.
Vera said the DEC requested the deadline be extended in order to substantially review the information submitted and assure it is complete for public review.
The landfill has applied for a 10-year extension of its operating permit, which expires Oct. 10.
In April, Seneca Meadows applied for the renewal. The landfill has the capacity to accept waste, based on current maximum permitted volume, until 2024.
