Auburn Correctional Facility continues to report more contraband than most state prisons, although the volume has decreased from previous years, according to newly released statistics from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
The latest data from DOCCS — which The Citizen received through a Freedom of Information Law request — showed the maximum-security prison ranked first for contraband in 2016. In total, ACF recovered 289 illegal forms of contraband last year, including 185 weapons, 100 drugs and four miscellaneous items.
In addition, as of March 2017, Auburn prison had reported 67 contraband incidents this year — the second-highest in the state. Only Clinton Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison that houses nearly 1,200 more inmates than Auburn, ranked higher with 93.
