New security measures coming to Cayuga County Office Building

Visitors to the Cayuga County Office Building will soon be required to show photo identification and obtain a guest pass. The new measure goes into full effect on Wednesday, July 12, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Those conducting business in the county Department of Motor Vehicles or at the county clerk’s office at the 160 Genesee St. facility will not be required to have a pass but will be required to check in with security. Those visiting other floors will need to check in and get a pass that details the individual’s name, reason for visit, what floor they will visit and the date and time. Passes must be worn in the upper left part of the chest and remain visible.

Passes are void six to eight hours after the check-in time, and anyone who does not have a pass will be asked to leave the building, according to a sheriff’s office notice. Children under the age or 16 need not have a pass, but must be accompanied by an adult who does.
