Simonds accepts plea deal in Clifton Springs sex abuse case

Janiet Simonds, of Clifton Springs, is scheduled to be sentenced to 22 years in state prison Sept. 14 for her role in multiple crimes involving the sexual abuse of children, including the production of child pornography involving a 1-year-old girl.

Simonds has accepted an agreement with the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office and pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act and one count each of first-degree sexual abuse and the use of a child in a sexual performance, admitting her role in a string of sex crimes involving children dating back to 2012. The first three counts are violent felonies.

Simonds, 27, and her boyfriend, Tristan Mayes, 32, also of Clifton Springs, were arrested by State Police in late June 2016.

She initially was charged with first-degree criminal sex act and later indicted on charges of predatory assault against a child and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, alleging she sexually abused two children in Ontario County.
