Waterloo man accused of stealing from Walmart

On Thursday at approximately 7:59 pm members of the Seneca Falls Police Department arrested a Waterloo resident following a shoplifting complaint at the Walmart Supercenter on North Rd.

It was reported to police that Luis A. Vargas-Diaz, 23, of Waterloo stole merchandise from the store, then when confronted by asset protection employees, he ran away from them.

Police located him, as well as the stolen property – hiding nearby. During the investigation and review of surveillance camera footage, police also discovered that Vargas-Diaz brough used grocery bags into the store to make it look like he purchased the items, when he had not.

Police charged him with petit larceny, as well as possession of burglars tools. Both are misdemeanors.

He was arraigned in Seneca Falls Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.

He’ll answer the charges at a later date.
