On Rochester’s “Superhero Day” promotion Sunday, catcher Mitch Garver did his best Superman impression at the plate and cemented his name in Red Wings history.
Garver became the first Red Wing to record three home runs in a single game in Frontier Field’s 20-year history. He blasted a two-run shot in the second to left field and followed with solo shots in the fourth and sixth innings in an 8-2 win over Syracuse.
A Wings player hadn’t hit three home runs in a home game in more than 40 years — Jim Fuller being the last to do so in Silver Stadium in the mid-1970s. Garver finished 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.
