A subsidiary of Mercy Flight Central is the new Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) at the Canandaigua Airport.
The Ontario County Industrial Development Agency, which owns and operates the airport off Brickyard Road, announced Monday that MFC Aviation Services LLC became the FBO effective July 6.
“Canandaigua Airport is an engine for economic development by providing a gateway to the Finger Lakes and the greater Rochester area,” said Mike Manikowski, Ontario County IDA executive director. “The growth of the airport will benefit development within the region, showcasing Ontario County as a leader in economic progress.”
Manikowski said MFC Aviation is now providing services to aircraft, crews and passengers using the airport, and has started a continual process of improvement. Last month, the IDA received nearly $1.7 million in federal funds to upgrade the airport — $539,990 for a snow-removal equipment building and $1,125,000 to repair the airport apron, where aircraft are parked, unloaded or loaded, refueled and boarded.
MFC Aviation Services plans to hire up to five new employees initially. It will also provide direct support to air ambulance operations, and all net proceeds from the FBO operations will aid Mercy Flight.
