Land Trust receives donation of 62-acre easement

The Finger Lakes Land Trust has accepted the donation of a conservation easement that will conserve 62 acres.

The easement protects a part of Taughannock Creek, a tributary to Cayuga Lake and the stream that forms Taughannock Falls.

The property, owned by Richard Paige of Hector, was purchased in 1940 by his parents.

He and his wife, Nancy Adams, established wildlife habitat on the property and maintained 20 acres as a hayfield for a local farmer. They also established a varied forest plantation on another 20 acres.

The property also consists of streamside habitat, including 750 feet of frontage on both banks of Taughannock Creek, and an adjacent area that has been gradually reverting from farmland to woods.
