Calling all villagers — and hamlet dwellers — in Manchester

The future of the historic Lehigh Valley Railroad roundhouse will be one of the topics at an open house Thursday about a draft joint comprehensive plan for the town of Manchester’s communities: the villages of Manchester, Shortsville and Clifton Springs and the hamlet of Port Gibson.

Town Supervisor Jeff Gallahan said the plan focuses on land use — permitted areas for agriculture, industrial and residential. To be wrapped up by the end of the year, this plan will be incorporated into the Ontario County Rail Corridor plan, likely to be set this fall. The rail plan involves developing or redeveloping lands along the seven miles of the Finger Lakes Railway corridor in the town and its villages. A collaborative effort with Ontario County, the municipalities and Finger Lakes Railway are matching suitable sites that can also provide a prototype for rail corridor plans throughout the county.
