Owasco Flats restoration project one step closer to construction

A long-time project to limit sediment plumes from entering Owasco Lake came a little closer to construction late Friday afternoon after the state Department of Environmental Conservation issued Cayuga County its permits to build.

Bruce Natale, environmental engineer for the county, said the DEC permits for the Owasco Flats Wetland Restoration and Riparian Buffers Initiative had very minor change requests that the county will include when it goes out to bid. He’s still waiting on a federal wetland permit through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, but that is expected to be delivered next Friday, he said. Once that comes in, Natale said the county will likely go out to bid about two weeks after.
