Late Saturday morning, 19-year-old John Exner met a friend for lunch at Hunter Dinerant in Auburn. A regular at the Genesee Street restaurant, Exner ordered his food and went to the bathroom. But as he returned to his spot at the counter, he realized something was wrong.
“When I came out of the bathroom, there was a bunch of screaming and yelling going on in the restaurant,” he said. “I looked over and saw an older woman was choking at a table.”
At first, Exner said people thought the woman was having a stroke. But as he approached, he saw that her face was turning blue and she had saliva coming out of her mouth.
He knew she was choking, and she didn’t have much time.
