City of Geneva taking steps to create new marina

The city is set to outline the next step in its multi-year lakefront improvement plan: the extension of Long Pier to allow for a new 100-slip marina.

An informational meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the pavilion area next to the ice cream stand, which is near the pier.

Sage Gerling, director of neighborhood initiatives for the city, said Edgewater Resources has been hired by the city to design an extension to Long Pier as the first step toward the creation of greatly expanded city docking facilities. The pier extension would serve as a breakwater for the new docking facility.

Edgewater is partnering with LaBella Associates, Environmental Design & Research and Prudent Engineering for the project, she said.
