Ann Marie Buerkle, an Auburn native who represented central New York in Congress from 2011 to 2013, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to chair the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Trump nominated Buerkle to lead the commission for a seven-year term beginning Oct. 27, 2018. The start date would coincide with the end of her existing term as a member of the panel.
In 2013, she was nominated by then-President Barack Obama to fill a seat on the commission and serve out the remainder of a seven-year term. She was confirmed by the Senate one month after the White House announced the nomination.
