On Monday at approximately 1:28 pm deputies were called to the scene of a two car motor vehicle accident.
Deputies say a 2004 Volkswagon sedan operated by Alexander Hunter, 17, of Penn Yan was northbound on State Route 14 at the intersection with State Route 90 and State Route 318 and struck a 2015 Dodge Caracan operated by 23-year-old Alexia Ramirez, of Fort Drum.
Phelps Fire and Ambulance also responded to the scene. Ramirez had two young children in the vehicle with her and both were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with no visible injuries, according to deputies.
Hunter was transported to Geneva General Hospital with minor abrasions.
The cause of the accident was determined to be Hunter failing to yield the right of way. Deputies say that the traffic light at the intersection was not functioning at the time, due to a power interruption.
