Cayuga County legislators critical of state’s reassessment relief for Lake Ontario flooding

Cayuga County Legislator Tucker Whitman called Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s latest act to help flooding victims affected by storms from April 1 to July 1 “a classic state riding in on their horse to save the day at the expense of local municipalities.”

Whitman, who represents the towns of Sterling and Victory in District 1 where a great deal of flooding from Lake Ontario has occurred, was critical of the “Lake Ontario and Connected Waterways Assessment Relief Act” that would allow residents to have their properties reassessed following the damage that has devastated the area. Cayuga County Attorney Fred Westphal said it’s something the county, municipalities and school districts would have to opt into, and it would have to be done soon.
