About 40 problem gamblers have self-excluded themselves from entering the del Lago Resort & Casino in Tyre since it opened Feb. 1.
None of them are from Seneca County.
That information was provided to the Seneca County Board of Supervisors Mental Health Services Committee Tuesday by county Community Services Director Margaret Morse.
Morse was asked by Supervisor Bob Hayssen, R-Varick, to provide an update on the two full-time psychiatric social worker positions funded by del Lago for problem gambling treatment and prevention.
“We have hired people for these positions and are working with del Lago to get referrals. It’s new to them and us, but we’re working at it and the casino is cooperating very well,” Morse said.
She said self-excluding means a person realizes they have a severe addiction to gambling that has caused economic hardship to themselves or their families, which possibly iincludes losing a home. They realize they need to stop, so they keep themselves out.
