The honors for Mark Gearan keeping growing, even after he has left his post as president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
State Sen. Pam Helming, R-54, Canandaigua, presented Gearan with the Liberty Medal, the highest civilian
honor that a state senator can bestow on an individual. Gearan received the award at a Geneva Red Wings baseball game at McDonough Park on July 23.
The ceremony took place during Pam Helming Night at the Red Wings game against the Newark Pilots. Helming sponsored the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League matchup. The two teams are based in the 54th State Senate District and, as part of the sponsorship, free tickets were handed out to fans who attended.
Helming said she awarded Gearan the Liberty Medal to “recognize him for his tireless efforts on behalf of Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the Geneva community.”
Helming also recognized Joey Salone, a Geneva Little League baseball player who was scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. She also spent time meeting the Red Wings players and coaches, as well as touring the stadium to see recent improvements.
