Midlakes appoints new superintendent

Matthew Sickles is excited to start serving as superintendent of the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District (Midlakes) beginning Sept. 1.

He brought his family Monday to a special meeting of the Board of Education, which unanimously approved his appointment through June 2021 with an initial annual base salary of $140,000.

“Thank you,” Sickles told the board. “I’m humbled and honored and can’t wait to get started. We’re very excited to become members of the community. Midlakes has felt like home throughout the process.”

Sickles was introduced by board President Ryan Davis, who presented him with a long-sleeved Midlakes hoodie sweatshirt.

“I think there are a few people that have been excited for this meeting for a while,” Davis said, in opening the short meeting.

“Good job, board of education, going through the process, getting it done and finding a great candidate,” Michelle Shenton called from the audience. She is a middle school French teacher and president of the Phelps-Clifton Springs Faculty Association.
