The Working Families Party Opportunity To Ballot petition for district attorney has been upheld by the Seneca County Board of Elections.
Objections to the petition were submitted by Working Family Party member Shirley Sobczak of Waterloo. She claimed five signatures should be invalidated for various reasons, leaving an insufficient number of valid signatures.
Election Commissioners Tiffany Folk and Ruth Same ruled Friday that one signature was invalidated because of a defective address listed on the petition.
But they upheld the signature of a person Sobczak said was not enrolled in the Working Families Party and said three other signatures raised issues of fraud “which are beyond the ministerial scope of the Seneca County Board of Elections. Therefore, as the board is unable to render a determination in this matter, the petition retains its presumption of validity.”
