State police: Jordan man had BAC nearly 3 times legal limit when train hit empty car

A Jordan man who left his car on a set of train tracks in Brutus, causing a crash with an oncoming train, was found to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, according to New York State Police.

Robert L. Long, 42, was placed under arrest Friday night after he failed multiple standard field sobriety tests, according to police. Long was transported to the Auburn State Police station and a breath test measured his blood alcohol content at .20 of 1 percent, police said.

He was charged Friday with driving while intoxicated first offense and aggravated driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors. He was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and stopping/standing/parking on a highway and driving through a railroad gate, both traffic infractions.
